About The Magic Nexus
About the Creator
Hello there, my name is Diana Farris, and if you're reading this, thank you for even taking the chance to do so. Over the past two years, I have been working on a game book called “The Magic Nexus,” which is a Tabletop Roleplaying Game, or TTRPG for short, that is just entering beta.
What you'll read about is the story of a project that I started in order to provide a path forward for myself as a young trans woman, but also for other members of underrepresented communities.
I have faced discrimination while working everyday jobs, and it had taken such a large toll on my mental health. I didn't back down, or give up. I said to myself that I want to write the next chapter of my story, and I want to uplift others who also have faced such discrimination.
At its base, I started this project to provide a space for anyone to be able to see themselves in successful, celebrated, and respectful ways, right from the very beginning. Tabletop Roleplaying Games have long been an outlet that has provided people with the ability to explore their identity with their friends and loved ones. However, it is not often that underrepresented communities can see themselves in the media.
With all of that in mind, I sought out others who wanted to uplift each other through celebration of our differences. We gathered artists who are making illustrations of not just LGBTQIA+ characters, but also of many other lived realities who don't get to be seen in the light they deserve.
The Game
The game itself is a love letter to creative minds who want a sandbox to explore with their friends and loved ones. It provides the player with an incredibly wide array of content that is non-restrictive compared to other games in its field.
Just like other TTRPGs, The Magic Nexus is a malleable d20 ruleset that you use to build a story with. A storyteller called a “Nexus Master” can gather a group of people together, whether it be online or in person, to play together. As the Nexus Master tells the story, the rules of The Magic Nexus aim to provide enrichment to that story and encounters the players may be faced with.
What Makes It Different
No Classes
Instead of classes, there are twelve elements. The race you choose determines the element(s) you start with, but as you progress you can gain access to all twelve.
No Levels
Instead of levels there are multiple forms of currency that can be used to purchase the things a character might normally gain from leveling up.
600+ Abilities
Pick and choose from among 600 abilities spread throughout twelve elements. Near-endless combinations for your character.
Create Your Own
If you can't find something that fits your fantasy, you can make it a reality through tools to create your own abilities or upgrade existing ones.
What Playtesters Say
“A refreshing take on the standard model of TTRPGs, The Magic Nexus brings everyone around the table together as a team to challenge adversities in the game. More importantly, the game also challenges the norm by empowering the underrepresented, and it gives a voice to those who otherwise may not have the courage to be themselves.”
— Soqumai
“If I had to summarize The Magic Nexus in a word, that word would be choice. Breaking from the concepts of character class and levels, The Magic Nexus lets you build your character however you want on your journey through a campaign.”
— Steve
“The build potentials in The Magic Nexus are unparalleled, allowing the creation of characters you want to build that would normally not be able to exist in other TTRPGs.”
— Crewe
“The sheer amount of customization available is what drew me into the game with 600 different unique abilities, meaning near endless combinations when you take into account your 25 chosen abilities.”
— Shaelin
