The Magic Nexus is a malleable d20 ruleset that empowers your storytelling. Learn how to play and create the character you've always wanted.
The Basics
Just like other TTRPGs, The Magic Nexus uses a d20 ruleset that you use to build a story with. A storyteller called a Nexus Master gathers a group of people together — whether online or in person — to play together.
As the Nexus Master tells the story, the rules of The Magic Nexus aim to provide enrichment to that story and encounters the players may be faced with.
Character Creation
The Magic Nexus replaces traditional classes and levels with something far more flexible. Instead of being locked into a class, you choose from twelve elements. Instead of leveling up, you earn multiple forms of currency to spend on abilities and upgrades.
Choose Your Race
Your race determines which element(s) you start with. Each race has unique characteristics and connections to the world.
Pick Your Elements
Start with elements tied to your race, then expand. As you progress, gain access to all twelve elements.
Select Abilities
Choose from over 600 abilities spread throughout the twelve elements. You select 25 abilities for your character.
Spend Your Currency
Use multiple forms of currency to purchase abilities, upgrades, and even things normally only available at character creation.
The Twelve Elements
Instead of classes, The Magic Nexus uses twelve elements as the foundation of character abilities. Your race determines your starting elements, but as you progress you can unlock all twelve, picking and choosing from 600 abilities to build exactly the character you envision.
Make It Your Own
If you can't find something that fits your fantasy of what your character can do, you can make it a reality. The Magic Nexus provides tools to create your own abilities, or upgrade the ones that already exist so that they match what you want.
With 600 abilities and 25 ability slots, there are over 110,400,461,164,029,879,580,081,326,850,533,034,570,953,024 possible combinations — and that doesn't include all the other customization features.

As a Nexus Master, you guide the story and bring the world to life for your players. The Magic Nexus provides the tools and framework to create compelling adventures, manage encounters, and weave narratives that respond to your players' choices.
The flexible system means you can run anything from a dungeon crawl to a political intrigue to an epic world-spanning quest — all within the same ruleset.
